Candidate Letters & Bios

To whom it may concern,

My name is Rusty Dunmire, I have been a chapter member since 2018. I am currently a

board member and Membership Chairperson. I served on the education committee for 2 years. I

have enjoyed being an active member of the chapter and helping wherever needed. I would like

to express my interest to continue serving on the board for another term as I believe that I will be

a valuable participant in helping the chapter continue to move forward.

After receiving my certificate for Firefighter 1 & 2 in 2003, I joined Queen Valley Fire

District as a volunteer. In 2005, I was hired as one of the first full time paid firefighters with this

department. In 2017, I was asked to be the Fire Investigator for the District after completing

Arson 1 & 2 through the Chapter. In 2018, I achieved my IAAI-FIT certification and completed

Arson 3 & 4 and received my AZ-CFI2 certification. In 2019, I was promoted to Captain with

my department and joined the Pinal County Arson Task Force.

Thank you for your consideration,

Rusty Dunmire, IAAI-FIT, AZ-CFI2

AZIAAI Board Member

AZIAAI Membership Chairman

My name is Jonathan Hutcheson, and my involvement with AZIAAI began at Arson IV in 2022, where I volunteered as an attorney assisting with Daubert hearings and participated in the Arson for Prosecutors training. I am an active member of both the Arizona chapter and the international organization, serving on Arizona’s Communications (co-chair) and Education & Training Committees.

Together with Shaun Hull, we overhauled the chapter’s website and IT services, including the email system and event registration process. These changes have significantly improved the member experience—most notably, ensuring that our communications actually reach you!

I have been a regular instructor for the Fire Investigation Series (formerly Arson), and continue to assist with technical support, logistics, legal assistance/advisement (e.g. on demand prosecutor perspective on issues or scenarios with minimal “it depends” responses!), and anything else that’s needed. I’m a strong advocate for the mission and impact of AZIAAI, and I deeply value what the organization offers to fire service and law enforcement professionals across the state.

Since joining the chapter in 2022, I have completed Arson I and II through AZIAAI, obtained my Fire Investigator I certification through AzCFSE, and completed ATF/NCETR’s Arson and Explosives Training for Prosecutors, as well as the Post-Blast Investigative Techniques and Scene Exploitation courses. I have recently instructed at Arson IV and Fire Investigation II, and I will also be presenting at the 2025 ATC.

I prosecute arson and explosives cases for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) and serve as Co-Chair of the Maricopa County Fire Investigation Task Force. Before joining MCAO in 2020, I was an Assistant Attorney General with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office from 2014 to 2020.

I am deeply appreciative of being nominated to serve on the board and welcome the opportunity to increase my contribution to the chapter, should I be elected.

Thank you for your time, attention, and consideration!

Best,

Jonathan Hutcheson

AZIAAI Communications Co-Chair / Education & Training Committee Member

Fellow Truth Seekers,

My name is Eric Peyton, and I proudly serve as a Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, and Youth Fire Setter Interventionist with the City of Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

I have been a dedicated member of the IAAI since 2017, having completed the original AZIAAI Arson 1, 2, and 3 courses (now known as the Fire Investigation series) in 2017, followed by Arson 4 in 2018. Through this training, I achieved AzCFSE certifications for Investigator I and II. In 2019, I earned my IAAI Fire Investigation Technician (FIT) certification, as well as the IAAI Evidence Collection Technician (ECT) certification at the International Training Conference (ITC) in Florida. I have since had the privilege of proctoring the practical ECT exam for IAAI International twice—once at the ITC in North Carolina and again in Phoenix.

In 2023, I obtained my IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) designation, and in 2024, I achieved IFSAC Fire Instructor II certification. I also hold the CFEI and CFII credentials from NAFI. I remain committed to seeking out the highest quality training opportunities available through AzCFSE, IAAI State and International, the National Fire Academy, BATF, and NAFI. I’ve also begun to give back by sharing my knowledge through both classroom instruction and field mentorship.

Today, I respectfully ask for your support and your vote as I seek to serve as a board member for AZIAAI. I hold the current board, education committee, and leadership in the highest regard, and I am eager to contribute to the continued growth and success of our chapter. Guided by the principles of the scientific method, we strive to uncover origin and cause—but above all, we are seekers of the truth.

Thank you for your consideration—and hopefully, your vote.

Respectfully,
Eric Peyton
